On January 5th, 2013, Terry and I participated in a unique fundraising project inspired by the hit Masterpiece Theatre series; Downton Abbey.   The Essex Resort & Spa in Essex, Vermont was transformed in a 1920’s home of the English aristocracy.  Guests were treated to a special screening of the 1st episode of the third season of Downton Abbey on the big screen at the Essex Cinemas, one day before the North American premiere.  Afterwards, everyone “retreated” to The Essex Resort & Spa, where Chef Arnd Sievers and his staff put on a culinary delight inspired by the period.

Ouidram was fortunate to be pouring Scotch whisky, the favourite drink of Lord Grantham.  We were representing the fine products of William Grant & Sons, a major sponsor of the event.  Pouring Glenfiddich and The Balvenie, many guests were experiencing Scotch for the first time.  Ouidram also donated a bottle of Glenfiddich Snow Phoenix Limited Edition to the Silent Auction, signed by Glenfiddich World Brand Ambassador Ian Millar and the Master Blender who created Snow Phoenix; Brian Kinsman.

The Downton Abbey Experience was a complete success, with over 400 guests attending, many dressed in period costumes representing 1910 through 1920.  There was even a marriage proposal during the event!  The credit goes to Michael Ellenbogen of EONS Creative, the event planning company that developed the experience for Vermont Public Television.  We are looking forward to particpating again and raising funds for a worthy cause.
